Death of W.H. Hughes last night
Mr. William H. Hughes died last evening at St. Francis hospital. Mr. Hughes has been ill for some years past, but a week ago was taken to the hospital suffering with inflammation of the bowels. Mr. Hughes was 60 years of age. He is survived by his wife and three sons. These are Frank Hughes of the city police force, Edward Hughes who has charge of the city water works at Lake Moraine, and Charles, who is an engineer on the D & R.G. Western. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Grand Army, having served in the war with the Ninth Ohio cavalry. He was a member of El Paso lodge of Masons and will be buried with full rites of the order. Mr. Hughes came here about 18 years ago and has resided in the city continuously for the past 12 years. He was a kindly man and is mourned by all who knew him. The funeral services are to be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the First Congregational church.

HUGHES WILLIAM H., Coshocton; carpenter and contractor; was born April 9, 1840, in Muskingum county. He is a son of Henry C. R. Hughes, American born, of Irish ancestry. Young Hughes was raised on the farm until about fifteen years of age, when he began to learn the cabinet trade, which he followed until 1861, when he enlisted in Company A, Ninth O. V. C., and served until the close of the war. On returning from the war he resumed his trade at Roscoe, where he followed it until 1869, when he changed to his present trade. In 1871 he came to this city, and has successfully followed the carpenter and contracting business to the present. Mr. Hughes was married August 8, 1866, to Miss Jennie Mirise, daughter of John Mirise, deceased, formerly of Roscoe. This union has been blessed with five children, viz : Frank G., Alice Blanche, Edward Beall, Charles H, and William Longdon.
