Kenneth Joseph Griggs
November 6, 1924 - January 5, 2016

Kenneth Joseph Griggs, 91, died peacefully on January 5, 2016 at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was born in Roanoke, Virginia on November 6, 1924. His parents were Ernest T. Griggs and Isabel Camp Griggs. He was the last surviving of four children, two brothers Elmo A. Griggs and Albert (Boosie) Griggs and one sister Lorna Griggs, all of Roanoke.

Kenneth served his country in the Marines during World War II. He worked for his entire career for the N&W Railroad. He and his wife, Ella Louise Griggs, were married for nearly 53 years before her death in 2013. Kenneth loved the Redskins, and his church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and was a generous and kind–hearted man. He was feisty, intelligent and thoughtful until his last day.

He is survived by a beloved niece, Ellen (Bill) Beamer from Colorado, a nephew, E. Allen Griggs of Indiana, and Kathy Harvey, a dear friend from church. Thanks to the Nursing Home Staff at Brandon Oaks for providing such excellent care for him for the past 2 ½ years.

A graveside service will be held at St. Andrews Diocesan Cemetery, 3601 Salem Turnpike NW, Roanoke, Va 24017, at 3:00 pm Saturday January 9th. The Rev. Alistair McKay will officiate.
