Mrs. Armstrong worked as a secretary for many years then moved into management until her retirement. Brenda's love for gardening came from her Grandmother, who passed it on to her dad. His love was roses, at one time he had 250 rose bushes. She laughs as she tells the story that her mother could kill plastic flowers Her gardening career did not begin until she took the Master Gardener class in 2001. It was there that her love for “playing in the dirt” truly began. Brenda has served as Secretary, Vice-President and President. She served as Secretary of the Blount County MGA. Brenda was also a member of the Blount County Wildflower Group, serving as Secretary, a member of Blount Iris and Daylily Society (she was the editor of their monthly newsletter). Brenda was an Alabama MGA Board Member and Vice-Chair of the AMGA State Meeting for 2015.

Brenda has recorded over 4,000 volunteer hours with AMGA. She is very active in her church, First Baptist Hayden, serving as Hostess Committee Chairman, a member of the Nominating Committee, and Choir and was Chairman of their upcoming Centennial Event.

Her passion was rescuing plants, any kind and anywhere she can “dig” them. Her gardening motto was “plant your plants close together, that way you do not have to pull weeds”!
