Madeline Sholar Connelly, 63. 190 Woods Drive, Florence, SC, died Sunday afternoon, 11 May 1997 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday in the Florence Memorial Gardens Chapel. Burial will be held in the cemetery.

Mrs. Connelly was born in Wallace NC, a daughter of Verline James Sholar and the late George Dun Sholar. She graduated the North Carolina Public Schools and Kings' Business College in Charlotte. She was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #3181. Engaged in banking for many years, she worked with South Carolina National Bank for 17 years having served as branch manager in charge of opening their branches at Bargan and East Evans Streets, Darlington Highway, Marion Highway and Five Points. Prior to her retirement in 1978, she served for 5 years as Assistant Vice-President of Carolina Bank and Trust Company of Darlington, having opened their branch in Quinby, SC. She served as president of the Pee Dee Chapter of the American Institute of Banking.

Mrs. Connelly was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Moore Connelly who died in 1974. She married him on 26 Jun 1953 in Florence. He was the son of Walter Connelly and Inez Page. Surviving in addition to her mother of Wallace, are one daughter, Debi Inez Connelly Compton of Cowpens, SC. Two sons, Harry Moore Connelly III and Patrick K Connelly II. One sister Mildred S Rhea of Wallace, four brothers, Pat Sholar of Surf City, Maurice Wade Sholar and Harold Sholar, both of Wallace and Roger D Sholar of Stevenson, Alabama.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Treatment Center, McLeod Medical Center Foundation, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC 29506 or the "Adopt a Park" program, South Park Playground Fund, Parks Department, City of Florence, SC. The family received friends at the residence.
