Richard W. Abbott passed away February 7, 2011, under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born March 7, 1929 in Cobleskill, NY, he was the son of Willard and Beatrice (Warner) Abbott. Richard served in the US Air Force from 1949 to 1952 and worked for Harrison Radiator for 28 years where he was a tunnel operator, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing and especially loved to spend time with his family.
Richard is survived by his wife, Joan (Gaygen) Abbott; father of Rick Abbott, Anne (Thom) Hopkins and Lisa Geiger; grandfather of Heather, Cori, Devon, Connor Abbott, Jason (Stacy) Hopkins, Krista (Darryl) Ernst, Brian Hopkins, Marissa, Michael, McKenna, Maren and Mailey Geiger; great- grandfather of four; brother of Marian (late Norbert) Wick and Barbara (Duane) Walker; several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday 4-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, where funeral services will be held Friday at 10 AM. Donations to the St. John Outreach Center, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport, NY 14094, or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated.
