Mrs. Lottie Mae Tatum Vanhoy, 90, of Waycross died Wednesday afternoon at Satilla Care Center after an extended illness. She was born in Ware County to the late George Hamilton Tatum, Jr., and Lottie Melissa Wildes Tatum. Mrs. Vanhoy had made Ware County her home for all of her life. She worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone Company before her retirement on April 26, 1971 after many years of service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed spending time at Fernandina Beach, and visiting her husband’s family in North Carolina. More than anything she loved her family. She loved her brothers and sisters, their families, and any time she was able to spend with them. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, B.G. Vanhoy, a brother, James Hamilton “Hamp” Tatum, and four sisters, Lavenia Bell Tatum, Margaret Simerly, Doris Douglas and Melissie Howell.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Clayton Lee and his wife Chelley of Hortense, Candace Robertson and her husband Joel of St. Mary’s, six great grandchildren, Hailey, Kinsley, Brayden, Skylar, Chesney, Gavin, two sisters, Kathleen Pedrick of Waycross, Jane Bennett and her husband John of Waycross, three brothers, George L. Tatum, Sr., of Waycross, Elias A. Tatum and his wife Jo of Waycross, Toomer M. Tatum and his wife Betty Sue of Waycross, a step-son, Ronnie Dyer and his wife Betty, and their family, of Troy, North Carolina and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday at First Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, Georgia 31501.
