LOCKHART - The Rev. Jesse J. Griffin, 80, of 319 North 3rd St. died July 25, 1999, in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
A native of Cherokee County, he was son of the late Albert Louis and Lillie Petty Griffin. He was a four-year student of American Bible School and was retired ordained minister of The Church of God. He pastored churches in Chester, Newberry, Great Fall, Spartanburg, Camden and retired from the Laurens Church of God. He was a veteran of World War II and was a former member of the South Carolina National Guard in Cherokee County and Union County.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Jolly Griffin; a daughter, Glenda E. McGuire of Norwood, N.C., a son, Donnie W. Griffin of Duncan; a brother, Louis E. Griffin of Spartanburg; a number of nieces and nephews; four grandsons and two great-grandsons.
The family is at the home and will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Union Church of God. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Union Church of God, conducted by the Revs. Alton Stone Jr. and Denny Haston. Entombment will be in Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Church of God, 1113 Thompson Blvd., Union, S.C., 29379.
The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
