Derek JaVaughn Hill, age 18, was born March 6, 1992, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Oscar D. Whitmore, Sr. and Lisa Hill-Rucker. His great-grandmothers, Marion Taylor and Louise Hawkins, and stepgrandfathers, Luther D. White and Wilson Akins preceded him in death. Derek was educated in the schools of Kansas City, Kansas, and was scheduled to graduate next year, 2011. He accepted Christ in his life at the early age of fourteen. He was an aspiring Rapper, dancer, and writer, who wanted to make it big. He passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010. He is survived by his loving mother, Lisa N. Rucker (Johnnie); father, Oscar D. Whitmore; step-mothers, Stephanie Whitmore and Gwen Randle; grandparents, Horace and Angie Hill, David and Betty Whitmore; step-grandmother, Willie B. Akins; seven sisters, Tanisha Whitmore, Lakisha Davis, Siare Rucker, Johnnesha Rucker, Cheree Rucker, Deja Heard and Desirre' Rucker; three brothers, Oscar Whitmore Jr., Johnnie Rucker Jr. and Johnathan Rucker, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church of the Jesus Hour, with Rev. Marvin Haydengroves officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.
