Lewis Cleveland (L.C.) Roberts, born on Jan. 13, 1943, in Monroe County, passed away during Monday night, the fourth of January, 2016, nine short days of seeing his 73rd year.

He was a kind soul who was always willing to give you his last dime, or the shirt off his back. He has been a part of many lives and will be celebrated even more. He was a wandering free spirit that went where the wind took him. He was a hard worker who experienced many different jobs in his lifetime accumulating a number of stories to tell.

Lewis came from a large family, many of whom have preceded him in death: His parents, mother, Emmer Holcomb Roberts, and father, Lewis Roberts; brothers, J.B., Ivan, Howard, and Wilburn; sisters, Ida Mae Holcomb, Geneva Ashley, and Ellen Roberts; and two children, Charles Bates, and Melissa Roberts.

He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Ray Evans of Tellico Plains, and Margie and Jonsie Hester of Englewood; three children and spouses, Susan and Tim Middleton of Augusta, Ga., Jan and Jack Hatfield of Georgetown, Ind., and Chad and Kathy Roberts of Chatsworth, Ga.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Myers Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Myers Funeral Home Chapel with the eulogy given by son-in-law, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Timothy Middleton.

A private burial will be held at Eleazar Cemetery.

Myers Funeral Home of Tellico Plains is in charge of arrangements.
