The Reverend Lee E. Bishop, 89, formerly of 120 Charles Street, widower of Barbara Mundy Bishop, died Saturday, Jury 26. 2008 at NHC of Laurens. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Lormie and Essie Bagwell Bishop. He was formerly of Ware Shoals and moved to Greenwood in 1960. Rev. Bishop was retired from the textile industry and was an ordained minister. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of West Side Baptist Church, where he was an honorary deacon. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Charles Ray (Malin-da) Chalmers of Laurens, Mrs. Raybura R (Sara Lee) Moore of Muscle Shoals, AL, Mrs. Mary Ellen Phipps of Harlingen, TX, and Mrs. Stephen (Jane) Nevitt of Columbia; a son, James Harrison Bishop of Easley; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Garrett and Mrs. Nena Burts, both of Laurens and Mrs. Sue Elledge of Ware Shoals; one brother, Henry Bishop of Greenville; eleven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at West Side Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hal Lane and Rev. Brian Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons Chris Chalmers, Michael Chalmers, Greg Moore, Brian Phipps, Jay Bishop, and Lee Nevitt. Honorary escort will be the deacons of West Side Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at West Side Baptist Church on Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:30. Memorials may be made to West Side Baptist Church, 215 Bypass 225 South, Greenwood, SC 29646.
