Michael Allen Harwood, 62, of Sheridan, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at Riverview Health in Noblesville. He was born Dec. 25, 1953, in Noblesville, to Billie Junior and Virginia M. (Jennings) Harwood.

Mike loved the town of Sheridan with great passion. To him, it was a wonderful place to grow up, work, live, build a family and watch that family grow up, have a family of their own, and raise that family in the community he enjoyed so much.

Mike served the residents of Sheridan for 13 years as a member of the Sheridan Town Council. During those years, he was proud to serve as the Police and Fire Commissioner, attending every meeting and riding with the officers every chance he could. He was a beloved and highly respected member of the Sheridan community, whose presence will be greatly missed.

Mike was a plant supervisor for Biddle Precision Components for over 30 years. He later went to work as a jack of all trades for Wallace Grain for a couple of years. After leaving the elevator, Mike went to work with the Zionsville school system maintenance and grounds keeping crew. He remained there for the next six years, until his retirement in 2010.

He was a member of the Sheridan First United Methodist Church and the Sheridan Jaycees.
Mike was a very talented woodworker. Many of his pieces of art are present throughout the Sheridan community.
Of all of the many passions and joys in his life, there was nothing more important to him than his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He never missed any of their events, games or practices.

Mike is survived by the love of his life, Pamela R. (Heffelmire) Harwood. Pam and Mike were married on Jan. 6, 1973. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Virginia Harwood; his son, Brian M. (Stacey) Harwood of Sheridan; daughter, Jennifer M. Shepard of Sheridan; four grandchildren, Kyle Harwood, Abbey Harwood, Connor Harwood and Adam Shepard; and his sister, Margaret E. (Glen) Bougher of Sheridan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Billie Junior Harwood; one brother, Robert K. Bidgood; and his canine "Best Friend," Buddy.

A very special thank you goes to all of the doctors and nurses at Riverview Health, especially the staff of the ICU.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Sheridan First United Methodist Church, 207 E. 2nd St., Sheridan. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the church. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Pastor Carol Frits will be officiating.

Memorial contributions may be presented to the Sheridan High School Athletic Department, c/o Brian Jones or Kim DeVaney.
