Sister Alanna Ring, age 87, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Saturday evening, January 2, 2016 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. The former Margaret Joan Ring was born on October 1, 1928 in Marshalltown, Iowa, daughter of the late Edward S. & Anna B. (McGinnis) Ring. She entered the Convent in 1951 and professed her vows in 1953. Sister Alanna earned a Nursing Degree from St. Francis School of Nursing, Peoria, IL and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a Master of Science in Nursing from Catholic University, Washington, D.C. Sister Alanna served as an instructor/supervisor in Medical Surgery at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, Ohio; St. Francis Memorial Hospital, West Point, Nebraska; Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Also, she was the coordinator of the Health and Retirement Program at the Motherhouse, served as the Healthcare Regional Coordinator and Administrator of St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She was Director of Education Programs at Holy Family Hospital and Director of Nursing at St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. Sister Alanna served as a medical aide at St. Joseph Retirement Community, West Point, Nebraska and as a nurse at San Damiano Convent, Slinger, Wisconsin. Following active ministry, she performed various tasks at the Motherhouse and at Silver Lake College, provided Sponsor Presence through Holy Family Memorial Network, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, performed tasks assigned at St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc. Since October 2015 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; and one sister: Sister Marilyn Ring, O.S.B., Rock Island, Illinois. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Edward and Anna (McGinnis) Ring; one brother and sister-in-law: Edward (Doris), and one sister and brother-in-law: Helen (John) Hall.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Finian Zaucha, OFM with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
