For eight seasons (1970 to 1977), he played at the guard and tackle positions in the National Football League with the Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. Born Andrew Lee Maurer, he attended Prospect High School in Oregon where he achieved All-American honors in football and basketball, in addition to excelling at track and field. He continued his athletic on the collegiate level at the University of Oregon. Selected by Atlanta during the 3rd round of the 1970 NFL Draft, he totaled 109 career regular season games. Maurer experienced playing on two teams which reached the Super Bowl (Minnesota in 1975 and Denver in 1978). Individually, he displayed durability as he put together a four season consecutive games played streak (1970 to 1973). After retiring from football he founded and coached the Cascade Christian High School football program.
