Author. Yoshii became a member of the "Shinshisha" literary group headed by Tekkan Yosano, and soon thereafter published a well known short verse "Myojo" ("Morning Star"). In 1908 he formed the "Pan no Kai" group and published many plays. He also established the magazine "Subaru" with Takuboku Ishikawa under the editorship of Ogai Mori in 1909. He is particularly known as the lyricist of "Gondola no Uta" ("Gondola Song"), which was performed in the Akira Kurosawa-directed movie "Ikiru".
