Francis was the daughter of John William Brown and Sarah Kitchens and the second wife of Ralph Marlin. Ralph first married her older sister Lucy and she bore him three children, Sarah Francis, Orlanda, and Rachel, before she died in 1865. Ralph then married Francis on 26 Apr 1868 in Itawamba Co., MS.
