LEBANON -- Christiana Louise Marie "Christa" Johnson, 74, died Thursday (Aug. 31, 2006) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born Aug. 22, 1932, at Vocklabruck, Austria, to Baron Erwin von Woelfle and Margarete (Schellmann) Woelfel. When she was five, the family moved to Bad Hall, Austria and then to various parts of Germany where she received her high school education. She was accomplished in several languages, including German, English, Italian and French. She was employed by an export firm in Linz, Austria.

On Jan. 22, 1955, she married Viron Leroy Johnson in Bad Hall, who was serving in the U.S. military. They lived in Oberlin before coming to McCook where they operated the Goat Hill Farm south of McCook. In 1959, they moved to the family farm south of Lebanon in Decatur County, Kansas. She raised cocker spaniels and German shepherds and several other breeds and was a member of the American Kennel Association and the Family Frolics Dance Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Gudrun Schossthaler.

Survivors included her husband, Viron of?Lebanon, who died Friday (Sept. 1, 2006); a daughter, Audry and husband David Smith of Independence, Kan.; two sons, Ronald Johnson of Lebanon and Richard and wife, Lisa Johnson of Saling, Kan.; one sister, Margarete Schaatz and husband, Hans of Linz, Austria; three grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Joint services for Christa and Viron will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be at the Danbury and Marion Cemetery at Danbury.

Friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook Saturday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.
