Father of Sarah, Duchess of York. Major Ronald Ivor Ferguson was Polo manager to the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales. His interest in polo brought him into contact with the Royal Family, and through this connection his daughter Sarah met and subsequently married Prince Andrew. Major Ferguson was born in London, the son of Andrew Henry Ferguson and Marian Montagu-Douglas-Scott. He attended Eton College and Sandhurst, and entered the Life Guards, serving with them in Egypt, Aden, and Cyprus. He married Susan Wright, on January 17, 1956. To this union two daughters were born; Jane Louisa and Sarah Margaret, later the Duchess of York. He married his second wife, also named Susan (neé Deptford) in 1975. They had three children, Andrew, Alice, and Elizabeth. In 1994 he published his autobiography, "The Galloping Major".
