CHESTER-Karen L. Lyons was surrounded by her steadfast and loving family as she passed from this life to the next at her home in Chester on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016. Karen was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and fought a valiant fight ever since.

Her parents were the late Robert and Esta Smith Johnston of Chester. Karen was born in East Liverpool on Aug. 16, 1945 and was 70 years old.

Karen possessed a great zeal for life and she cared deeply for her family and her animals. She worked as a dental assistant for retired Chester Dentist, Dr. Frank Bragg, for many years. After she and her husband David had moved to Florida, she managed a large dental practice there.

Karen was member of the last graduating class of Chester High School in 1963, and she attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Johnston.

Karen will be deeply missed by her husband of 52 years, David Lyons whom she married on Nov. 29, 1963; and by her loving children, Bridgett Dunlevy and husband Steve of Vero Beach, Fla., Gidget Carr and husband Charlie of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Cougar Santiago and husband Ed of East Liverpool, and Jodi Smith and husband Risty of Port St. Lucie, Fla. She had a very special relationship with her sister Shelly Reed and husband Bob who survive in Chester. Also she leaves her grandchildren; Amanda (Bubba) Milton, Jessica (Kyle) Aldhizer, Gregory (Stacey) Neybert, Cari (Anthony) Dekker, Christopher Santiago, and Abby Smith; her great-grandchildren, Haley, Kaylynn, Brooke, Blake, and Aubrey, and her nieces, Lexi (Alex) Kwon, and Sarah Reed.
