Dr. James Lowell Doler, 79, veterinarian, died December 2, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis after a sudden, unexpected illness. He was the owner of Parkway Village Animal Hospital for 33 years. Dr. Doler was a graduate of Mississippi State University and a 1963 graduate of Auburn School of Veterinary Medicine where he was a member of Omega Tau Sigma and president of the Honor Board for Veterinary Medicine. He taught vocational agriculture for a short time at Byhalia (Mississippi) High School.
Dr. Doler was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, and a former deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member at Germantown Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association of Tennessee and Shelby County, and was honored for 37 years of membership in the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was also a member of the American Small Animal Hospital Association.
Dr. Doler, son of the late Gilbert and Mary Doler of Slate Spring, Mississippi, was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Couch Doler; daughters, Ruth Ann Doler Price and her husband, Dr. Jim Price of Dublin, GA. and Kay Ellen Doler Hall and her husband Holt Hall of Memphis; his sister, Sue Doler Grooms of Maplesville, AL; and brothers, Dr. Thurston E. Doler of Corvallis, OR., Rev. Paul E. Doler and Billy E. Doler, both of Houston, TX; and grandchildren, Katherine, Mary Rachel and Amanda Hall and Rachel and Joshua Price.
Services will be Tuesday, December 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City, Mississippi.
