Obituary for Barry Mitchell Simmons

Smithville – Barry Mitchell Simmons, 62, passed away January 2, 2016, at his residence. Born on February 16, 1953, in Amory, he was a son of the late Offie Latous and Gertrude Alline Addington Simmons.

Barry attended High School in Smithville. He was a part of the family of the First Assembly of God Church. God was his focus and his passion was working on saving people and telling people about God. He was active in church and he was not shy about talking to people about God. On October 6, 1978, he married the love of his life, Litetia Bailey. They were happily married for 38 years and together they raised a daughter. Barry provided for his family by working at Big Bee Metals for close to 35 years as a welder. Barry served in the Army National Guard, in the 1st Squadron, 98th Calvary, and 198th Armored Division.

Anyone that knew him was blessed by his giving spirit. Of all the accomplishments he had in life, bringing people to God would be his most proud acts. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids and his great grandkids. Barry liked listening to Christian Music, Country Music, and Jimmy Swaggart’s preaching. He enjoyed treasure hunting by walking the earth and looking for Indian rocks.

The family would like to give special thanks to the EMT and the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Litetia; daughter, Angela Fears (Bobby), Amory; sister, Mavis Conwill (Wayne), Carolina Community; brother, Jerry Simmons (Linda), Evergreen Community; grandchildren, Joseph, Whitney & Katherine Fears; great-grandchildren, Briarrose, Colton, Grayson, Abaigail and Aargon Fears; special friends, his co-workers, his church family, and his community members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Russell.

His Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, January 4, 2016, at First Assembly of God Church, Amory, with Bro. Bobby Wilburn and Bro. Justin Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, Greenwood Springs, MS.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8:00 PM, Sunday at E. E. PIckle Funeral Home, Amory. Barry will lie-in-state at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the service hour.
