Margaret was born Edna Estella Douglas, the youngest child of Alonzo and Martha J. (Doughty) Douglas. As an adult she used several different names including Frances, Birdie, Margaret, Helen, and variations thereof. She married John E. Hyland in 1899 in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. They had one son, John E.
John Hyland died in 1912. Margaret later married Frederick W. Schwinn and they moved to Cameron County, Texas.
