Jeffrey Carl Cunningham went to be with his Lord after his battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma ended on June 13, 2015. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, businessman and friend.

Jeff was born in Akron, Ohio on July 7, 1948 but lived in Carrolton and Chesapeake, Virginia for the past 20 years. After 40 years of work in the compressed gas industry, with memberships in the Gas and Welding Distributors Association and the Compressed Gas Association, Jeff retired as Vice-President/General Manager of Catalina Cylinders in December 2014. He worked at Catalina for 23 years.

Though he enjoyed his work, Jeff looked forward to a retirement dream he never fully realized - spending time with his loving family at the Cunningham's vacation home on Lake Gaston, North Carolina. Jeff was an avid boater and car enthusiast. Additionally, he held his private pilot's license. Jeff also attended Point Harbor Community Church in Chesapeake with Sherrie Lawson-Cunningham - his wife of 19 years.

Jeff was so well loved because he was extraordinarily kind and capable of loving others, including his large family that will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jo Ann and Carl Cunningham. He leaves behind, his devoted wife and caretaker, Sherrie, and their children, Jon, Jenine and Dakota. Jon and his wife, Karen, live in Atlanta, Georgia and have two daughters, Bridget and Trinity. Jenine has four sons, Nic, Luc, Jac and Eddie, and lives in Chesapeake, Virginia. Dakota and his wife, Evelyn live in Norfolk, Virginia. Jeff's sister, Leslie Wright, and her husband Frank live in Akron, Ohio. Their children, Ross and Carlie are both married and have children of their own. All of Leslie's family lives in Akron as well.

Jeff will join his parents in Akron, Ohio for his final resting place. In keeping with Jeff's generous spirit, the family requests donations be made to the Roanoake-Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department in lieu of flowers. Their address is 790 Lizard Creek Road, Littleton, NC 27850. Please send condolences to P.O. Box 8 Henrico, North Carolina 27842. There will be a memorial celebration July 18th at 500 E. Waterloo Rd., Akron, OH 44319 starting at 12 p.m. RSVP to [email protected] if you are able to attend.
