She taught school in the country schools for several years.
In Jan. of 1915 she was united in marriage to Emory Pierce, who died in March 1932. To them were born three daughters, one dying in infancy.
In Nov. of 1938 she was married to A. C. Smith who preceded her in death Dec. 2, 1963. She lived all her life in and around DeSoto and Van Meter until Oct. 1974 when she became a resident of Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. In Sept. 1975 she moved to the Perry Manor where she passed away January 17, 1976.
She is survived by her two daughters: Lucille Belew of Des Moines; and Lorraine Haulman of Dallas Center; six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, one stepson, six stepdaughters, two nieces and two nephews as well as many other relatives and friends.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Van Meter.
