Eldest known surviving son of James C. and Rose Leeman, he was a printer and newspaper publisher, first at Bangor, and later in Fitchburg and Townsend, Massachusetts.

He first married Amy Vesta Adams, daughter of Everett and Vesta (Barrett) Adams, on 01 Jan 1894 at Bangor. They had one child, Ruth Hazel, born a few weeks before Amy's death.

He next married Sarah Elizabeth Holden on 22 Oct 1899. Their children were Gertrude Eleanor, Millard Leroy, and Luella May.

The family resided in Maine through the 1910 census, and by 1920 were in Townsend, Mass., although various printer's trade journals report him working at Fitchburg in the interim.

The 1920 census shows him residing at Townsend with his family. His parents and younger brother James, Jr. are also enumerated there, just before his father's death.

His widowed mother and brother James lived in his household in 1930; and James was still living with him in 1940 at Greenfield, New Hampshire where they'd moved after their mother's death.

Adelbert's brother James died in New Hampshire in 1942 and was brought back to Townsend for burial. Massachusetts records show that Adelbert died at Townsend in 1945; his wife Sarah died there in 1951.
