Jack Wayne Merryman, 82, of St. George, Utah, died Sept. 20, 2005.

Jack Merryman was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Dallas County to Henry S. and Phyllis (Sheets) Merryman and resided in Cordova until his father died. He and his mother then returned to Dallas County where he attended country schools and later Van Meter High School. In 1939, he moved with his family to Truro, where he graduated from high school in 1941. On June 12, 1943, he married Catherine "Cay" Genson in Rockport, Mo.; they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Jack attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa before joining the Army, serving during World War II with the 612 Engineers Light Equipment Company, landing in Normandy on D-Day and participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and five battle stars during service in France, Belgium and Germany. After the war, Jack continued his education, graduating from Parsons College in Fairfield. He spent 32 years with the Chevrolet Division of General Motors in Des Moines, Clear Lake, Ft. Dodge, Watertown (S.D)., Fargo (N.D.), Moorhead (Minn.), Minneapolis (Minn.), and Lombard (Ill.) where he was regional merchandising manager for passenger cars for a five-state area. Jack also served in two Bishoprics and two Stake High Councils for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Ann.

He is survived by his wife, Cay, of St. George; two daughters, Jan Smith of Cohasset, Minn., and Kristin Carle of Hanau, Germany; one son, Mark Merryman of Hanau, Germany; a brother, Bill Lorenzen of Truro; and six grandchildren.
