Samuel was the son of John and Margaret Grant. His parents were born in Maryland. In 1880 Samuel, 45, and his wife Ara M., 39, were living in Elkton, Md. with children Addie H., 19, Samuel E. "Eddie", 15, Lillie M., 13, Fannie, 9, Walter F., 7, Lida, 5, and Florence, 2. Daughter Helen was born in 1886. In 1900 Samuel was a widower. In 1910 Samuel was proprietor of a livery stable. Samuel died December 1, 1923. In his will, written in August 1918 and later filed in Cecil Co., Md., Samuel mentions daughters Addie H. Grant and Lillie H. Cavender of Cecil Co., Md., Fannie H. Jackson of Wilmington, Del., and son Walter F. Grant of Plattsburg, N.Y.
