Obituary... Mrs Ann Stipe wife of Wm. Stipe a resident of this locality since 1853, died at her home near Milford last Tuesday, in her 72nd year. Mrs Stipe's maiden name was Caywood. she was born in Tennessee Feb 14, 1826, moved with her parents to Illinois and then to Iowa., In 1840 living in Wapello county several years, moving to this county in 1853. She was a constant members of the Methodist E. Church for 44 years and until death. Her husband and three children survive her. Her children are Mrs. Charles W. Mercer, living near Elliott, Mrs William H Ellenwood and Mrs Sarah Jane Beals. Mrs Stipe was one of the pioneers of this county. She knew the privileges of pioneer life, patiently toiled and lived to enjoy the fruits of a life of toll.
Ann and William raised her sister Pauline's child Mary Emmeline McClary after Pauline died. Mary married Valentine Ackerman at the Stipe home Sept 27, 1871.
Ann was mid-wife delivering baby's and mending folks of Milford (Grant) Iowa, was said she always had her basket medical supplies ready at all times.
Ann died of Coley Morbis.
