She was born January 27, 1928, in North Carolina and grew up in Virginia, Georgia, and North Carolina. Sarah graduated from Young Harris Junior College and later married George R. Patrick. They moved to Knoxville in 1952. She was first a full time mother and homemaker. During that time she influenced many young women through her work as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. When her children were grown, she worked for First Presbyterian Church as receptionist and after retiring, began a second part time career as membership secretary at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. She will be fondly remembered for her gracious hospitality to both family and friends. Many frequent guests came to think of the Patrick house as their home away from home.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George R. Patrick, her parents Ellis Harding and Annie Belle Quinnerly Joyner, her brother, Ellis Harding Joyner, Jr., and her sister, Anne Hollenbeck.
She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016, Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Maxey officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 -4:00 p.m., preceding the service. A private interment will be held Monday, January 4, at the East Tennessee State Veterans’ Cemetery.
