McCook Republican 31 July 1925
Isaac N. Shepherd, 86, pioneer and civil war veteran, died at his home in East McCook at four o'clock this morning. Mr. Shepherd had been ill but nine days. Death was his result of kidney trouble.
Mr. Shepherd was born February 5, 1839 in Putman County, Iowa. During the civil war he enlisted with the 23rd Iowa Infantry, serving 3 years with the Union army.
In about 1879, Mr. Shepherd, with his family moved to southwestern Nebraska, where they took a homestead on Spring Creek, according to the recollection of one of his daughters. About 30 years ago the Shepherds moved to McCook, and have resided here since.
Besides his widow he leaves to mourn his death a sister, Mrs. G. A. Folden of McCook; a brother, John Shepherd of McCook, who has been suffering from a paralysic stroke for the past five years; two daughters; Mrs. Alfred Drake and Mrs. Frank Coleman of this city; five sons: Rev. Harry Shepherd of Los Angeles, Rev. Henry Shepherd of California; Edward of Curtis Vigil of Kearney, and Arthur of McCook, and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church, of which Mr. Shepherd was a member from childhood; Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clcok. Burial will be made in Riverview cemetery.
It is expected that all the children except Rev. Harry Shepherd will be present for the funeral.
