Ralph, also found as Rafe, Ruliff and Roeloph, was baptized on May 10, 1747, at the First Reformed Dutch Church, at New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Ralph was married in 1768, in Rowan County, North Carolina, to Lydia Combs (born circa 1748, in New Jersey). She remarried on July 21, 1808, in Shelby County, Kentucky, to George Staton.

Ralph was said to be educated at Princeton University, at Princeton, Mercer County, New Jersey, to be a minister, but a record of him attending Princeton has yet to been found.

Ralph joined his brothers John, Benjamin, William and Aaron, and sister Jane in the Kentucky migration.

**Rachel Van Cleave, born circa 1777, in Rowan County, North Carolina. Married June 18, 1793, in Shelby County, Kentucky, to Benyah/Benijah Laugherty/Daugherty.
**Jane Van Cleave, born circa 1779, in Rowan County, North Carolina. Married on January/June 7, 1796, in Shelby County, Kentucky, to Nathan Chapman (died circa 1811). He was accidentally shot while hunting.
**Mary Van Cleave, born circa 1782, in Rowan County, North Carolina. She was seduced by (Joseph) Teague, and gave birth to Levi Van Cleave (born September 1, 1799, in Shelby County, Kentucky).
**Hope Van Cleave, born circa 1793, in Shelby County, Kentucky. Married to Jonathan Wood.
