Kyoko Ellen Weant, 86, of Taneytown MD, died Friday January 1, 2016, surrounded by her family. Born February 4, 1929 in Oita City, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Mutsuo keda and Shizue Katsuragi Ikeda. She was the wife of 62 years to the late Howard Weant, who died in 2012. Howard and Ellen met as he was serving in the Army during the Korean War. She attended Beppu Kenrishtu Girls' High School and studied at Beppu Women's College (Beppu University), majoring in Economics.

Ellen loved traveling, reading, classical music concerts, museum visits, line dancing, staying active at the Taneytown Senior Center and her church, sharing jigsaw puzzles, teaching origami and Japanese culture classes at local schools and clubs, and taking videos of hundreds of events for her family and community. She was immensely optimistic, energetic and outgoing, loved making new friends, and was always willing to help whether you wanted it or not. She instilled a sense of being loved and needed, and never lost that childlike wonder.

Ellen is survived by son Terry Weant, daughters Linda Passell and husband John, Gale Smith, and Michiko Szpatura and husband Gary; grandchildren Carrie Weant, Tyler Weant and wife Melissa, Brendan Passell, Troy Smith and wife Ellen, and Ian Smith; two great-grandchildren, Caden and Jaxon Zepf. In Japan, Ellen is survived by brother Tsugihiko Ikeda, sisters Kuniko Himeno, Fusa Endo, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by brother-in-law Roger (Earl) Weant, sisters-in-law Oneida Hogan, Joyce Weant and Alberta Weant; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother Mutsuya Ikeda and his wife Haruko, brothers-in-law Norio Endo, Richard Weant Sr, Sirrell Weant Sr, sister-in-law Sylvia Weant, and nephew Junya Ikeda.

Ellen was a long-time active member of Messiah United Methodist Church.

She has donated her body to the Maryland Anatomy Board for scientific research.

A celebration of Ellen's life was held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at the Taneytown Vol. Fire Company Activities Building, Memorial Drive from 12 - 4 PM, with a service at 1:30 with Pastor Brenda Shields and Pastor Art Thomas.

____________
If we could visit heaven, even for a day, maybe for a moment, the pain would go away. We'd put our arms around you and whisper words so true, that living life without you is the hardest thing to do. No matter how we spend our days, no matter what we do, no morning dawns or evening falls, when we don't think of you. Loving and missing you forever.
