Billie Jean Larson, 91, lifelong resident of Edgar, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2015. Billie was born on September 27, 1924, to Ralph and Fannie (Jeffs) Mileger in Edgar.

Billie Jean was a graduate of Edgar High School (Class of 1942) and the Lincoln School of Commerce. After a year of teaching country school, Billie traveled by train to Washington DC to work in the War Department during World War II. There she met Carl Chester "Chet" Larson, also from Edgar and serving at the Pentagon in the Army Air Corps, and they were married on May 2, 1945. Following the war, they returned to Edgar and raised two children, John Steven and Jill Elaine. Their first-born, Carl Jr., died as an infant. Many happy years followed, raising her family alongside the growing families of her two sisters, Bobbie Shuck and Pat Swanson, also Edgar residents. As the children became older, Billie was hired by the City of Edgar as City Clerk. She served the city in that capacity for 27 years.

Some of the accomplishments she was most proud of were her supporting role in the decisions to build and operate Leisure Village and Rosebrook Care Center. Before the time when computers were everywhere, Billie spent long hours writing "light bills" and doing other administrative tasks by hand to keep the city operating. She made many good friends during this time. Billie was also a lifelong member of the Edgar Christian Church, and her faith was very strong. As a member, she served as Church Secretary/Treasurer until her 90th birthday. She was known for her organizational skills and diligence in record-keeping. Billie was a member of PEO and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Over the years she was also active in Girl Scouts (troop leader), Cub Scouts (den mother), PTA, and bowling leagues. Her "green thumb" with her flowers was well known. She and Chet grew peonies for sale on Memorial Day for several years. Of all her accomplishments, though, she was the most proud of her family. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren blessed her later years. Although not always able to see them as often as she would like, she kept them close by covering the walls of her home with their pictures. Billie loved all children and was a wonderful aunt to many nephews and nieces living in the Edgar area.

She was preceded in death by her husband Chet and first-born son Carl, Jr. Also her parents Ralph and Fannie Mileger, sister Patricia Swanson, brother Ralph, Jr, and grandson Grant Larson.

She is survived by her children, John Larson and his wife Mary of Lincoln NE, Jill (Larson) White and her husband Bob of Lee's Summit MO, her sister Bobbie (Mileger) Shuck of Edgar, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be directed to Edgar Fire and Rescue, Edgar Christian Church, Edgar American Legion Auxiliary, or Edgar PEO Chapter AA.

Funeral services will be held this Friday 2:00 PM, January 8, 2016 at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Edgar, Nebraska. Pastor David King will be officiating. Burial will be held in the Edgar Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at wmsfh.com. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
