In 1869 he established the firm of Routzahn & Bowers lumber dealers, on East Patrick street, and remained its senior partner up to the time of his death. He visited the establishment daily and always took a lively interest in the business, while at the same time by his genial courtesy he always commanded the respect and esteem of the employes. Mr. Routzahn at one time was Judge of the Orphans court, a member of the Board of County Commissioners at the time of secession when the revision of the Maryland code was an agitating question.
He was a life long member of the Lutheran church, and also a director in the First National Bank. He was a gentleman of the old school, endowed with remarkable activity for one of his age; he was a pleasant companion, an honorable, upright citizen, and one whose familiar form will long be remembered.
Death did not result from any stated physical debility, but with just a gradual breaking up, a wearing out of nature, the spirit left its earthly body and returned unto its Maker.
Mr. Routzahn leaves a wife and five children: Mrs. Wm. D. Bowers, Mrs. T.C. Dudrear, Miss Rebecca Routzahn, Joseph L. and Henry Routzahn.
The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon from his late residence, North Market street. Interment will be made at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
