William Everett Tackett, 69, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his residence.

He was born May 1, 1946 in Morgan Township, Ohio a son of the late Edgar Tackett and Catherine Blanton Stephenson of Portsmouth, who followed him in death later that evening.

Everett was a retired Laborer from Laborer's Union Local #83 and a decorated US Army Vietnam War veteran, receiving the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Moose, Eagles, and the American Legion.

He is survived by one son, of Lucasville; three grandchildren; two brothers; three sisters; a special niece; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Everett was also preceded in death by one brother, Butch Tackett.

Graveside Military Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 in Big Run Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the William A. Baker and James F. Irwin Posts of the American Legion. Friends may call from noon to 1:30 Saturday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
