GUSTAV EGGERT

Death last week, in the hospital, of Gustav Eggert, a resident of Mishicott. He died of blood poisoning as a result of an open wound being infected from a “snotsick” (rotzkranken) horse.
Der Nord Westen, 30 Aug. 1894
*******
A man by the name of Eggert living in the town of Mishicott recently contracted the glanders from a horse, which, if reports of its previous condition are true, has suffered from the disease for several years. The man evidently knew nothing of the true condition of the horse and became infected with the disease while caring for the animal, a portion of the discharge from the horse’s nostrils coming in contact with his hand on which there was a slight abrasion of the skin. Dr. Pritchard who had charge of the patient, says that this is the second case of this masture on record in the county. The man died on Tuesday last at the Polish hospital and was buried Wednesday.
