Sam was married to Dora Orena (?). Both of his parents were from Pennsylvania.

They had two sons: Walter, born in 1907 and Samuel, born in 1911.

Sam was hired as a Salinas City (CA) Policeman around 1916. The 1920 Census gives his occupation as a (Monterey County) Deputy Sheriff . He would have been working for William J. "Bill" Nesbitt, "The Dean of Sheriff's".

By 1930, Sam was the Chief of Police of Pacific Grove (CA) Police Department.

In 1939, he was a Watchman (Policeman) for the Salinas Police Department according to the City Directory.

By 1937 he had retired form law enforcement and took up business as a rancher.

His WWII draft Registration was completed when he was 57 years old! His employer is listed as the Speckles Sugar Company.

After the United States entered World War II, a new Selective Service Act required that all men between the ages of 18 and 64 register for the draft. The fourth draft registration covered males ages 45 to 64.

Note* His WWI draft registration gives his birth year as 1883; WWII registration and CA Death Index records it as 1884.
