He was born on October 3, 1954 to Arthur A. and Frances M. Neal in Pocatello, Idaho where he was raised. He attended elementary and junior high school at Hawthorne and graduated from Pocatello High in 1973.
Lance received certificates in Welding and Electronic Technology from Idaho State University in Pocatello where he worked for Bucyrus-Erie; then traveled the country with Anestos Trading Inc.; and then relocated for many years to Portland, Ore. to work at Tektronix, Inc. Since 2009, Lance had been a volunteer for Foster Grandparents at Edahow Elementary School in Pocatello.
Lance enjoyed gardening, playing cards with family and friends, and following his team: the Portland Trail Blazers. Lance also loved his time with children through Foster Grandparents and especially enjoyed introducing them to Spanish with books and language.
He is survived by his mother (Francy) to whom he was devoted; older siblings: Theresa J. (Peter) Anestos of Pocatello, and Von Arthur Neal of Hayward, CA; and younger siblings: Catherine N. (Mitchell) Symons of Post Falls, ID, Margaret A. (Roy) Bluemel of Roy, UT, Mark Arthur (Lisa) Neal of Coeur d’Alene, ID; and numerous nephews and nieces that loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father.
Lance and his family wish to give thanks to his caregivers at the Portneuf Cancer Center, especially Dr. Michael Callaghan, and at Encompass Home Health & Hospice, for their professionalism, care and compassion.
A private service will be held sometime later this year.
