In Lake Township, Newton County, Ind., on Thursday, Feb. 18, Adam Hamilton, in the 82nd year of his age.
Mr. Hamilton was born in Hardy county, Virginia, June 12th, 1793. In 1808 or 1809 he came with his father's family to Warren county, Ohio. On Dec. 17th, 1822 in said county, he married Margaret Howard, a sister of Robert Howard. From that time he moved about a little in Ohio and Indiana until 1841, when he moved to this county, and settled on his farm in Yellowhead. He lived on the farm until about eleven years ago when he came to Momence.
A few years ago he moved to Newton Co., Indiana, where his wife soon died. Since that time he has been living with his daughter Fanny - Mrs. Glaspy. For a long time Mr. Hamilton had been very feeble, and was so lame with rheumatism that he could hardly get about. He joined the Methodist church before he was married, and he has been a consistent member of that church ever since. He was always an exemplary man, a good neighbor, and strictly upright in all his way.
Since his wife died he has only been waiting, as he called it, to be laid beside her in his last resting place. He retained the possession of all his faculties to the last, and died with the anticipation of his reward in the better world. He selected his text himself from Job V, 26, which reads:
"Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season."
He was buried in the burying ground, at Beaver Lake, on Monday, the 22d inst. Elder Carl preached the funeral sermon.
He leaves surviving him four sons and one daughter. His sons Thomas, and Jacob B, who attended the funeral, Sanford, who lives in Ohio, and George, who lives near Morocco, Ind. His daughter Fanny Glaspy lives at Beaver Lake.
He has also one brother and two sisters living. John, the brother is 78 years old and lives with his sister the widow Patterson. The other sister lives near Paris, Ill. His daughter Hannah died in June 1872 at Momence.
