John Baird, was born in May 1807, in what is now known as Jefferson Township, Brown Co., Ohio. His parents were George and Jane Baird, who were among the pioneers of this county, and of whom we have made mention in another portion of this work. John was reared to manhood on a farm and received but a rudimentary education. In May 1832, he married Mary Fenton, daughter of Jeremiah and Rosanna Fenton. This union has been blessed with eight children seven of whom are still living-Jeremiah, George, Sarah A., Rosanna, John J., Mary and Rufus T. He has been very successful during life as an agriculturist, and is at present residing with the subject of this sketch, his wife having died in 1874. (Beers History of Brown Co, 1883)
