She had lived about 65 years on Indian Island, New Brunswick, but left at age 90 to live with her son William Henry Chaffey (1877-1971) in New York.

Drowned while rowing through the Old Sow Whirlpool between Eastport, Maine, and Indian Island, New Brunswick. He was rowing to work on Indian Island where he built boats.
