Haysi, VA- Lois W. Yates, age 83 of Wagon Trail, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at Mountain View Hospital in Norton, VA. Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Earsel and Odra Colley Willis. She was a member of Friends of Haysi Library and Haysi Golden Friends, The Book Club, Dickenson County Home Extension, she was a member of Splashdam Ladies Auxillary and former quilt club, she also wrote the Big Ridge Area News for Cumberland Times and was the first Mrs. Santa for the Haysi Library. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Gurvis Yates, sisters, Elizabeth Edwards and Sandra Powers, brothers, Johnny, Bobby Gene and Terry Willis.

Survivors include a daughter, Angela (Bennie) Sutherland of Haysi, two sons, David (Linda) Yates of Haysi and Anthony (Libby) Yates of Abingdon, grandchildren, Amber (Ryan) Mullins, Aaron (Toshia) Yates, Chris (Beth) Sutherland, Courtney Sutherland, Erin and Andra Ragone, Emily and Leigh Yates, great grandchildren, Addyson, Eden, Kaleb, Abella and Aeris, a sister, Toni (Frank) Fuller of Haysi and a brother, Robert (Nancy) Willis of Haysi.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Noah Kim Edwards and Roger Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Rebecca Willis Cemetery, Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with a song service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers Contributions may be made to Rebecca Willis Chapel c/o Becky Mondrage 123 Steinman Circle Clinchco, Va. 24226.
