The Thorne family lived in the City of Pittsburgh on Walnut Street.
Freddie's health began to fail, so she and her husband, Dr. John Mairs Thorne,
moved to California. Freddie's sister, Callie, took care of the children in Pittsburgh.
Freddie died at the age of 36.
In 1901, John Mairs Thorne married Caroline "Callie" Sofia Hartje, who was a widow of
Adolph W. Reineman. Adolph and Callie had had 3 children: Laurence, Howard,
and Mildred (who died as an infant).
John and Callie lived with their children from their first marriages (Laurence, Howard,
John Mueller, and Marie) and continued a busy and prosperous life in Pittsburgh,
living into their mid-eighties.

John Mueller Thorne attended Shadyside Academy, then studied
Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1916.
He served as a Lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps in World War I.
John married Louise Reinecke on October 7, 1922, at Louise's family's
mountain home in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
He was employed by Jones and Laughlin in Aliquippa and then at
Westinghouse Air Brake Company in Wilmerding.
The family lived in Edgewood, where John was an elder in the
Edgewood Presbyterian Church.
John died of bladder cancer in his home at 154 Gordon St.,
Edgewood, at the age of 42.
His oldest child was 13 and his youngest child was 3 1/2.
He was survived by his widow, Louise Reinecke Thorne;
3 daughters: Carol, Phoebe Ann, and Marianne ("Mannie") Thorne;
son John "Jack" Thorne,
his parents, Dr. and Mrs. John M. Thorne,
a sister, Marie Thorne Bishop, and 2 brothers:
Laurence Gilbert Thorne of Buffalo, New York, and
Howard Hartje Reineman of Rochester, New York.
Funeral services were held at the Edgewood Presbyterian Church.
