She was born December 27, 1914, in Fordland, Mo., the eldest child of Albert and Ollie Kinser. She spent all her early life in Fordland, graduating from Fordland High School in 1936. On July 18, 1936, she married Doyle Crowe, and they were baptized together on October 10, 1937. She lived all her life in the Fordland and Springfield areas. Gladys was an active member of the Tuesday Ladies' Work Day Sewing Organization at Kansas Expressway Church of Christ, where she was a member. She loved to cook, read and tell stories to anyone who would listen. She was a former member of the Cave Springs Southwest Trail Riding Club, a former president of the Chautauqua Grandmother's Club chapter 398, a member of AARP chapter 1660, and an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Missouri State Lady Bears basketball. Gladys was also active on the advisory board of Stillwell's SMOA, which delivers meals to homebound seniors. Up until her death, she was a member of the Belles and Beaus Bell Choir at Sonshine Manor, and had joined the newly-formed ukulele choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Alberta "Bertie" Stinnett; two sons, Cecil Crowe and Darris Crowe; and a grandson, Tommy Ray Ratliff. Survivors include three children and their spouses, Harlan and Wanda Crowe, Springfield, Milton and Kathy Crowe, Santa Maria, Calif., and Rita and Tom Ratliff, Republic; one daughter-in-law, Etta Crowe, Marshfield; a brother, Everett Leon Kinser and his wife, Sammie, Springfield; seven grandchildren and their spouses; 20 great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, nine step great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, also at the funeral home.
