He was born in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky to the late Claude Akins and Hattie Lee Merryman Akins. He was a member at Fellowship Baptist Church and was a farmer.
Mr. Akins is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Mae Ritchey Akins; one son, Larry Wayne (Clydia) Akins; three daughters, Angela A. (Ricky) Phillips, Geri Simpson, all of Lawrenceburg, Kathy (Stanley) Wyatt, Lexington; three sisters, Corine Adams, Lawrenceburg, Ruby Bryant, Frankfort, Pauline Webb, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Akins Sims; six brothers, Charlie, Rollie, Ernest, Jack, Claude Jr., and Barney Akins; and two sisters, Bertha Denton and Sally Lefler.
Burial will be in Lawrenceburg Cemetery, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
