Staff Sergeant Elliott served with the
566th Bomb Squadron, 389th Bomb Group,
8th Air Force during World War II.

He was the Right Waist Gunner aboard B-24J
Liberator #44-40247.

After departing the airfield at Hethel,
Norfolk, England to support the D-Day invasion
operations in northern France, his aircraft,
for reasons not determined, either exploded or
disintegrated in flight and crashed near
Pond Farm, Sidestrand, England.

All ten airmen aboard perished. The body of
the tail gunner was not discovered until
August 5th, in a wheat field, some distance
from the crash site.

Earle was married, wife residing in Walhalla,
South Carolina.
