CHARLES AUGUST MEHRLING died at his home, 555 East Church street, Tuesday morning, within twenty minutes after he had been seized with illness while in bed. For the past four years he had not been in good health, but he was in his usual health upon retirement Monday night and his death came unexpectedly, aged 62 years and 1 month. He was a native of Frederick, being a son of the late August and Caroline Dreher Mehrling, who came to this city from Germany.

He has spent his entire life at the union Manufacturing Company. He was a foreman for 42 years at the Union Manufacturing Company. He retired four years ago.

Mr. Mehrling was a lover of flowers and gave his time to the beautification of his home. He was especially fond of tulips, and had set out 8,000 bulbs for next spring. He grew a number of varieties of tulips in his yard and garden. He was highly esteemed by his friends and acquaintances. A member of the Evangelical Lutheran church and Sunday School, he was active in them until his health became impaired. He was also a member of Mountain City Lodge, No. 29, Knights of Pythias, and the Independent Hose Company.

He is survived by his widow, Miss Nellie Rigdon Mehrling. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Funeral services were held at the late home; interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery; M.R. Etchison and Son were the funeral directors.
