Now those four daughters are on their own with memories of their mother to direct them. Debbie died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at her home in Eagle Butte at the age of 44.
She was born May 10, 1962, to Isaac and Melda (Hollow) Dog Eagle, and was raised by her grandparents, Lillian Brown and Maynard Sogge. She grew up in Eagle Butte and attended school there, later receiving her GED. In her younger years she participated in barrel racing. She also attended Sitting Bull College where she received her degree in Casino Management.
She loved to cook and at every holiday gathering the requests poured in for her mashed potatoes and gravy. Her Lakota name was Wica Glu Hau Inyanka Win, or Runs With Her People.
She married Jaime Roach and they had four girls. Debbie was also a pipe holder at the first Sitting Bull Sundance.
Survivors are her four daughters; her parents, Isaac and Melda Dog Eagle of Little Eagle; grandmother, Grace Jamerson of Little Eagle; grandfather, Maynard Sogge of Rapid City; two brothers; two sisters; and a special niece.
Her grandparents, two brothers, Adrian Dog Eagle and James Dog Eagle; and two nephews, Marc Jr. and Caleb Jr., preceded her in death.
The funeral for Debbie will be Thursday, Sept. 14, 11 a.m. CT at the Little Eagle Blue Gym in Little Eagle with the Rev. Norman Blue Coat officiating. Special music will be provided by Steve Emery, Chuck Brown and Sissy Goodhouse.
Burial will be in the Messiah Lutheran Cemetery in Little Eagle under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
A prayer service will begin at 6 p.m., and concludes at 12 a.m. this evening (Wednesday) at the Little Eagle gym.
