He was born February 17, 1920 in Randolph, Ohio to Louis and Clara (Wise) Eichler.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dolores (Horning) Eichler and their children: James (RoseMarie), Edward (Helen Jane), William (Patty), Jerome (Debbie), Dennis (Marilyn), Rosemarie (Steve) Czapski, Ronald (Cara) and their families including 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Gilbert is also survived by his sister Gertrude Love and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he operated a dairy farm, drove a school bus, and worked as a custodian for Waterloo Schools.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at St. Joseph Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd., in Randolph, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and again on Wednesday, December 30, from 10:00am until the 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Thomas Acker. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
