A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002 at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Sister Jean Herman, Chaplin of Holy Family Hospice. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at St. Casimir Church Cemetery, Northeim, at a later date.
She was born March 23, 1921, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late George and Arline Nelson Adler. Ruth was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class of 1939. On July 14, 1945, she married Mathew A. Poklinkoski at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Ruth and Matt began the operation of Manitowoc Landscape Co. in 1938. She was involved in the day-to-day operations of the business from bookkeeping to managing the garden center. The company was one of Manitowoc's first landscape operations.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law: Patrick and Brenda Poklinkoski, Timothy Poklinkoski and Sherri Schweigl, all of Manitowoc; two grandchildren: Jacob Poklinkoski and Noah Poklinkoski; a sister: Carol Adler, Manitowoc; two brothers-in-law: Clarence Poklinkoski, Manitowoc; Anton (Adeline) Poklinkoski, Manitowoc; and a sister-in-law: Alvina Wagner, St. Nazianz. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Matt Poklinkoski on May 7, 2002; two sisters-in-law: Ann Zboralski Shimek and Betty Poklinkoski; and five brothers-in-law: Edward Poklinkoski, Harry Zielinski, Alfred Wagner, Ambrose Zboralski and Clarence Shimek.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002.
The most important part of Ruth's life was her love of family. She also loved her work with the family business and throughout her life gained many friends working in the garden center. The family would like to thank Holy Family Home Care & Hospice for their care and support.
