Funeral services for Edmond F. Berckenhoff, aged 55 years, two months, 26 days were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville Monday, March 22 at 10:45 a.m.
He died in a Floresville Hospital Saturday, March 20, 1954 at 12:20 AM following a two-month serious illness. He had been in failing health about two years when his condition grew more critical some weeks ago.
The body lay in state at Murray Funeral Home. Rosary services were held at the funeral chapel Saturday evening and again Sunday evening. Religious rites were conducted by the Rev John J. Gerbermann, pastor of the church. Burial followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Milton Flessner, Elo Jahn, Eugene Berckenhoff, William Berckenhoff, Edwin Derrich and Wilbert Aschenbach.
Edmond Frederick Berckenhoff was born December 22, 1898 in Shiner, Tx. The son of William and Annie Berckenhoff. He lived in Lavaca County for a number of years.
On October 18, 1921 he married Miss Bertha Jahn. They later moved to Wilson County near Floresville.
His parents, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
He engaged in farming all his life and was a quiet, law abiding citizen who commanded the respect and high esteem of many of his friends.
Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Victor Merecka and Mrs. William Merecka, both of Floresville, four grandchildren and a nephew, Otto Berckenhoff who made his home with his uncle since childhood, two sisters, Mrs Alma Fridea, Floresviille, and Mrs Stasia Derrich of El Campo; two brothers, Rudolph Berckenhoff of Muldoon and Henry Berckenhoff of Yorktown.
